Father of the Year  

NOMINATIONS are now closed for the Bass Coast YMCA Community Father of the Year Award for 2010.

It is 100 years since Father’s Day was first celebrated in 1910 by a YMCA in the United States of America and Bass Coast YMCA manager Ash Crimmins said that this important annual event celebrates the significant role fathers and male role models play in our community.

Primary school and pre-school aged children were invited to nominate their dad – or someone who is like their dad – by writing or drawing about why their father or father figure (it could be a brother, uncle, grandfather or friend) is special to them.

Winners will be announced shortly. 

Open Doors campaign  

Improved community health and happiness is the aim of the 2010 YMCA Open Doors campaign at the Phillip Island Leisure Centre and the Wonthaggi Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

Too many families and individuals doing it tough are missing out on the opportunity to take part in healthy activities that connect them with others.

Bass Coast YMCA is taking proactive action to do something about that.
